Monica Shah has built an Early Years centre that is one of a kind, making the most of an incredibly rich personal story. She guarantees our standards and ensures quality of service remains excellent. You will often see Monica on the children’s floors offering warmth and support to our staff.
Our founder, Monica Shah, has crafted a harmonious pedagogical experience from the earliest years of life, drawing from the world’s best influences and her own professional expertise. This British-Swiss citizen of Indian descent has championed bilingual educational opportunities in Zürich since 2006. With a one-of-a-kind background in child and family services, Monica envisioned a centre of excellence in Zürich with resources for families. She focuses on the early years and school-age tutoring to offer Swiss bilingual children an education ‘without borders’
We have special talent here, our aim is to only hire exceptional people to work at Children First. Research shows that in social environments, it is the educational background of the staff that makes a difference for young children’s learning and development. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced, trainee teachers are only offered short-term placements. We are grateful to our dear colleagues, each team makes Children First unique.
“I have a huge admiration for those who can do this job with balance, a calm attitude. They love and laugh and they really live the Children First values. We have shared values and reinforce each other and what is happening at home and at school. Monica hires mature staff, not just in age, but in their way of working.”

I am delighted to be the English Kindergarten Teacher at Children First. I have been part of the Children First community for 10 years.
My professional experience includes teaching English in the UK and at international schools. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from the University of Cambridge, and my great passion is helping children to read and write English with confidence and self-assurance.
I love accompanying children on their learning journey and providing them with a warm, supportive and motivating learning environment.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I bring a warm, child-centred approach to the classroom and create an engaging and supportive learning environment.
I specialise in bilingual programmes and individualised learning plans to best support each child. My experience in Swiss and international schools allows me to support children from diverse backgrounds and with different learning needs.
My passion is to foster curiosity, creativity and self-confidence, ensuring that every child feels supported and can grow to their full potential.
I live in Seefeld in Zurich and have been teaching kindergarten classes at bilingual schools around Lake Zurich for the past 30 years. Before moving to Zurich, I worked at various early years centres in London. For the past 10 years, I have been offering forest programmes for kindergarten children, most recently for children aged 2.5 to 5 years at children’s centres in Zurich.
I am friendly, responsible and love to accompany children in order to promote their best qualities. My daily routine and structured activity programme are tailored to the needs of the children. This programme strengthens their social and emotional foundation, which has a positive effect on their ability to learn and discover new knowledge.
I am a certified dance and movement teacher. I have been with Children First for over 10 years and have worked in various institutions. I have three grown children (my eldest daughter is an actress).
In my lessons, we learn various exercises for healthy posture, flexibility and coordination. We incorporate the exercises into stories and dance freely to music.
