Our last Fun Weeks in October were centered around the theme “Jump into Fall”. With the weather getting colder and the children spending more time indoors, we wanted to make sure they got plenty of opportunities to be active! The word play in the theme title was also a “spring board” to talk to the children about global English in different forms to increase their understanding of English as a world language. Visiting a nearby farm taught the children about finding nature in our city landscape and helped us focus on animals in their habitats. Our autumn scavenger hunt encouraged active listening, cooperation and teamwork. Pumpkin bowling was not only a fun physical activity but showed the children to look at how to use natural resources in a variety of ways. While baking bread, the children measured quantities of different ingredients and learned how to combine them to get tasty results. A favorite activity of the children was getting to carve a pumpkin which is an American cultural activity that is new to many children here in Switzerland.
